Vacuum filtration is used to a separate a solid from a liquid. The filtration apparatus consists of a Buchner funnel, filter flask, rubber adapter and rubber hosing.
Clamp the filter flask to a ring stand. Attach one end of the rubber hose to the side-arm of the filter flask and the other end to a vacuum source. Place the rubber adapter on top of the flask and insert the base of the funnel into the adapter. The rubber adapter will provide a tight seal between the funnel and flask. Place a piece of filter paper into the funnel.
